We are extremely proud and honoured to be relaunching the Young North West Chef of the Year in partnership with original founder, Brian Mellor.
After a short break, the North West’s most inspiring culinary competition is making a comeback — Young North West Chef of the Year is returning, ready to uncover the region’s brightest young talent and celebrate the creativity that keeps our kitchens thriving.
For years, the competition was a launchpad for ambitious young chefs, giving them the chance to showcase their skills, passion, and individuality in front of respected industry judges.
Many past finalists have gone on to impressive careers in top kitchens across the country — proof that the North West truly is a breeding ground for culinary excellence.
The pandemic put paid to all that, when the 2020 rendition of the contest was postponed, and following the strain the industry was under – even after it reopened in 2021 – the timing just wasn’t there, and priorities were understandably elsewhere.

This year’s revival, however, promises to be the most exciting instalment yet. With familiar faces on the judging panel, and an even stronger focus on regional produce and sustainability, it’s set to be a celebration of the next generation and the vibrant food scene they’re helping to shape.
“We think it’s the perfect time to get this competition back up and running: Chefs are asking, we are responding.” says Brian Mellor, Founder and Head Judge. It is indeed the perfect time, and an amazing opportunity for you to step out from behind the pass, and show the industry in the region just what you can do.
Caroline Wright, Managing Director of Taste Hospitality Recruitment said “I think it’s important for Young Chefs to have that springboard; it’s an amazing thing to be able to put on your CV, and an amazing achievement for a burgeoning career.”

Entries will be opening in January 2026 for chefs aged 25 and under, working or studying in professional kitchens across the North West. Whether you’re a Commis Chef finding your feet or a Junior Sous Chef ready to make your mark, this is your opportunity to stand out.
The North West has always produced exceptional chefs, and Young North West Chef of the Year is back to prove it once again.
The knives are out. The pans are hot. The stage is yours.
