Rooms, Recognition and Revelry

The sun is (mostly) shining, the pub gardens are busy, and the hospitality world just keeps on moving. Whether it’s Cumbrian countryside retreats, glittering awards, or culinary charity powerhouses, there’s been plenty to toast of late—so let’s get into it.

🏨 A “Very Interesting” Development Up North

The folks at Interesting Hotels clearly have a taste for Cumbrian charm—they’ve just added a second property in the Lake District – the Netherwood Hotel – to their already distinctive collection.

The Beautiful Netherwood Hotel, Grange Over Sands

If you’re not familiar with the group, they specialise in boutique boltholes with personality—and their latest acquisition is no exception. Think timeworn beams, locally inspired interiors, and views that stretch across fells and fields with more drama than a Bake Off finale.

This expansion shows that the appetite for experiential, independent-led hospitality is stronger than ever, especially when it comes wrapped in old stone and wildflower borders. Cumbria’s having a moment—and we’re all for it.

🏆 Catey Congratulations!

The 2025 Cateys took place this month, and let’s just say it was a night of standing ovations, standing desserts, and standing firmly in admiration of some seriously big names.

Brian Turner won the Lifetime Achievement Award at Cateys 2025

Mark Birchall continued his unforgettable 2025 by picking up another Chef of the Year gong, a well-earned recognition following his third Michelin star. Birchall’s cooking is all about intensity, precision, and putting Lancashire firmly on the world food map. Three stars, one northern powerhouse.

Also honoured was the legendary Brian Turner, who took home the Lifetime Achievement Award. With a career that’s spanned everything from telly screens to mentoring the next generation of chefs, this was a proper “Brian of the times” moment. Hats off, chef.

🍽️ Dinner Plans? Save the Date for October

While we’re still soaking up the summer sun (or dashing between downpours), it’s never too early to mark the diary for a colder-weather classic. You may have seen us draw attention to Hospitality Action’s Winter Chefs Dinner, which is back this October, and it’s shaping up to be an unmissable evening of food, fellowship and fundraising.

Tickets now available for this sparkling Hospitality Action event!

This annual feast is always a class act—some of the UK’s best chefs come together to cook a multi-course menu, all in aid of a charity that’s been the industry’s safety net for over 180 years. Expect exquisite dishes, big-hearted bidders, and more hospitality hugs than you can shake a canapé at.

If you’ve not booked your table yet, get in there while you can. It’s one of those events that not only warms your stomach, but your soul.

🌄 That’s a Wrap

From new hotels in rolling hills to towering talents being recognised on the big stage, July has brought plenty to smile about. And with October’s charity calendar already giving us something to look forward to, it feels like the year is cooking along nicely.

Until next time—keep the bar stocked, the ovens warm, and your eyes peeled for more reasons to raise a glass.

Big thanks to @rjswale and the whole team for such a memorable night! 🙌The more wine I imbibed, the less I remembered to take pictures, so this sadly isn't every dish 😅🥴#allium #foodie #LakeDistrictEats #DinnerGoals #michelinstar ...
