BLOGDOWN – ISSUE FIVE
This has been a week of challenges in lots of different ways. There is so much going on in the wider world at the moment, but all we can really do here is focus on our corner of the planet.
HOSPITALITY ACTION
The 20,000 Mile Challenge kicked off on Thursday with people making amazing commitments and contributions. At the writing of this piece over £50,000 has been raised, a fantastic achievement. The entire Taste team has taken part, collectively clocking up more than 100 miles between them, (with some contributing more than others; “50 Miles Riches” and “Marathon Wright”!) There is still time to sponsor participants by visiting www.umbali.org/challenge/the-20-000-mile-hospitality-challenge.
OUR CHALLENGES
Caroline managed just under 5 miles on Friday towards her 26.2 mile target and passing some stunning scenery in the process.
Sophie, meanwhile, hopped on to her bicycle and made a start to her 50 mile commitment around the Lake District.
Myself and Lauren went out and about and had a gentle 7 mile jaunt around Ramsbottom and Holcombe Moor. If you had been with us, you’d have found me face down in the grass on numerous occasions.
We also met some sheep and cows as well as the largest caterpillar I’ve ever seen!
CLOSER TO HOME
Back home, Kirsty’s strawberries and basil are coming along very nicely!
And her basil shot up almost overnight!
Kirsty’s street has also been playing the fascinatingly named “Bongo Bingo”, socially distancing of course, residents play bingo on the street, while someone plays bongos in the background. Classically eccentric British entertainment!
Sophie decided to take on half a cow on the barbecue; this monstrosity she assured me was as delicious as it was large!
It was Caroline’s turn to try her hand at a chef recipe, with Tom Kerridge’s ‘Nando’s’.
KEEP GOING…
We will get there; stay strong, stay safe.
See you on the other side!
