Head Chef – Northumberland – Up to £50k – 4 Day Week

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Head Chef to take the lead at a busy, independently owned restaurant in Northumberland, serving around 150 covers on an average day.

With a strong reputation, a loyal team and plenty of autonomy over the food offering, this is a great role for a chef who wants to put their own stamp on a kitchen without the politics of a large group.

Please note: We are unable to offer sponsorship for this role and candidates must have the right to work in the UK without visa sponsorship. If you require Sponsorship please do not apply, thank you.

The restaurant has a relaxed, welcoming feel and is open throughout the day, offering a varied all-day dining operation built around quality seasonal ingredients. Menus change with the seasons, giving the Head Chef plenty of scope to keep things fresh and interesting across the year.

This is a privately owned business, so the successful Head Chef will have genuine input into the menus and the direction of the kitchen. You’ll have the freedom to develop dishes, put together seasonal menus and carry out your own recipe and food costings, with menus reviewed and signed off with the owners.

The Package

  • Salary up to £50,000 depending on experience
  • 48 hours per week
  • 4-day working week
  • No split shifts
  • Opportunity to work with real autonomy over the menus
  • Seasonal menu changes
  • Stable, established kitchen team
  • Independently owned business
  • Accessible location – you don’t need to drive to get to work

The kitchen brigade is small and well established, consisting of three chefs and a Kitchen Porter. During service, you’ll have two chefs working the line alongside you, with a dedicated prep chef helping to keep everything organised behind the scenes.

The operation is currently based around four 12-hour days, although there is some flexibility around the hours for the right person. The important thing is that, with the restaurant open throughout the day, there are no split shifts.

As Head Chef you will:

  • Take overall responsibility for the kitchen and day-to-day food operation
  • Lead and support the existing kitchen team
  • Create seasonal menus that reflect the restaurant’s style and customer base
  • Develop new dishes and ideas while maintaining consistency
  • Complete your own recipe and food costings
  • Manage ordering, stock control and kitchen GP
  • Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation and hygiene
  • Organise the kitchen and ensure service runs smoothly
  • Work closely with the owners on menus and the ongoing development of the food offering
  • Train, motivate and develop the existing team
  • Lead from the front during busy services

This is a particularly good opportunity for a Head Chef who enjoys being involved in the food, wants genuine creative freedom and would rather work with a settled team than walk into a kitchen where half the brigade needs rebuilding. The rest of the team is stable, so the focus is very much on finding the right person to lead them.

If you’re an experienced Head Chef looking for a role where you can have real input, work a sensible four-day week and build seasonal menus your way, this could be an excellent next move.

Due to the number of applicants received, unfortunately we are unable to reply individually to each. Should your application be suitable for the role, then you’ll hear from us within 48 hours, thank you.

I couldn't just take Manchester's Finest at their word regarding JOJI had to find out for myself. So that's what I did the other Saturday. On my bill. Eating raw fish and pretending that I can use chopsticks 🥢 It was incredible. Sublime. So fresh. Such amazing ingredients, treated with expertise and care. And I have to let you know, there's something to be said for dining alone; it's going to be my new hobby. There was a lovely moment sat at the counter, when a total stranger and I made eye contact as we tried a dish at the same time, and both did that narrowing of the eyes when you taste something delicious, as we shared a moment of appreciation for our experience. He then turned back towards the friends he had come along with 😂🤓Digression... Anyway it was top. In the words of Douglas Adams "thanks for all the fish" 😁🫡 ...
